Obamas slip quietly into the Caribbean for some rest and relaxation

Barack and Michelle Obama have arrived in the British Virgin Islands after jetting in to the Caribbean on Richard Branson's plane. 

The former first couple posed with staff at Terrence B Lettsome International Airport, the islands' main airport, on Monday night after a flight from California.

A photograph of the pair with their arms stretched around immigration officials and the local police commissioner appeared on social media after their quiet arrival. 

Body found in Woodland river

Police are investigating the discovery of the body of a man found floating in a river in Woodland this afternoon.

The discovery was made just after 3pm Tuesday afternoon in a river at Connector Road.

The person has not yet been identified.

Investigations are continuing.

19-year-old charged with brother's murder

A 19- year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his brother.

Umbelto Hannibal appeared before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar in the Port-of-Spain 8th Magistrates’ Court yesterday, charged with the murder of his brother Marcus Small.

25-year-old Small was stabbed multiple times about the body around 1:30 pm on Tuesday 10th January, 2017 at his Caledonia Road Extension, Morvant home. 

He was transported by police to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Belle Garden/Goodwood recount at 3 pm today

Election officials will begin a recount of the Belle Garden/Goodwood constituency in Tobago at 3 pm this afternoon, upon a request by the leader of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Watson Duke.

The results of the election on Monday night showed the People National Movement (PNM) winning the seat by five votes, but the tight margin caused the party to be reluctant to declare the seat,

Duke said in a news conference today that during the counting last night, the PDP's candidate in the area was ahead of the PNM by two votes.

Police shoot "Convict" dead in Caparo

Police have shot and killed a man known only as "Convict" after they say they ordered him to drop a firearm he was brandishing.

The incident occurred around 7 pm on Monday.

Police say two officers responded to a report of a man brandishing a firearm on the main road in Caparo.

They say that on arrival at the apartment building the police officers were confronted by a man who pointed a firearm at them.

One of the officers drew his service pistol and fired at the armed man.
