Community Recovery Committee to get stipend

The Prime Minister’s Community Recovery Committee, which has been tasked with looking into problems plaguing areas of East Port of Spain, will be given a stipend.

This from PM Dr Keith Rowley, when asked about the Committee’s progress, thus far.

Dr Rowley said the group members, headed by psychologist Anthony Watkin, volunteered their services. However, he said it was decided that they will be given a “reasonable stipend”.

The Prime Minister said he has only met once with the members, but sought to assure that they have already begun the groundwork. He added they will report to him again by the end of the month. This, he said, will ensure any proposed initiatives will be included in the Government’s budgetary planning.

The Committee was set up on July 2nd following days of protests by residents across the capital city, calling for justice for the men who were shot and killed by police officers in Morvant on June 27th.
