Facing Tough Times

We all know times are tough, and I know most you may not know what
 to do to make it through the challenges you're currently facing. Life has become seemingly impossible. Do you find yourself in a depressed state, wondering what you're missing? Are you thinking that there must be something else that you should be doing? Are you unsure how to feel happy and fulfilled? STOP. 

It's time to start taking control of what you focus on; you have to learn how to positively feed your mind. What you feed your mind is what you become and to become the best possible you, you need to give your mind the most nutritious content possible. To put it another way, every day, you have to stand guard at the door of your mind.Why? Because the longer you hold things in there, the more you start to accept them unconsciously. Then you start to develop meanings that take over your life, likely in ways that won't serve you. If you don't feed your mind, you'll just be living off the weeds that grow in the empty spaces. By weeds, we're talking about information that's constantly coming at us in today's world with no rhyme or reason. It's up to you what you decide to let in.

Start by reading. Read for at least 30 minutes a day and make sure it's something of substance. Read biographies of great people who have achieved amazing things and endured massive challenges they will help you put your own life into perspective and gain insight. Not much of a reader? Try audio books or even podcasts. They provide the same level of content but are easy to listen to on the way to work, at your desk, or while you're doing household duties. This will help immensely as you explore ways to be happy.

Now that you have started to feed your mind, it's difficult to make an actual change in your life if your body stays the same. Your mind and body are one unit, what is happening to one influences the other. Whether you feel uncertain or fantastic, your physiology changes. When you are feeling physically strong and powerful, your mind follows suit. 

Try Exercising. Aim for three to five days a week and try pushing yourself to get your heart really pumping. You're now doing something more than you thought was possible and you'll be able to build not only physical, but also mental strength through exercise. The activity is up to you- just get moving! Create a daily ritual and make it a habit to stay consistent. This might be a morning run through your neighborhood or a trip to the gym to participate in your favourite class. 

When we seek success and happiness, it's best to look at how others have achieved the same thing. Success breeds clues, if someone is repeatedly successful, it's usually not just luck. Watch your role model work, see how they do it and then replicate to try achieving the similar result. Success is not a one size fits all, but taking pointers from those who achieved it is always a step in the right direction. The same rationale can be applied to happiness; you can use this method in the pursuit of happiness, too. Think of someone you admire who is wildly happy. What mindsets or beliefs do they follow that allows them to be happy?
 

Most people stay around people who are at their level or below it, partly because it makes you feel good about yourself and partly because they don't present a challenge. When we stay around people who are comfortable, then there's no room to grow. However, put yourself consistently in environments that are larger than you're used to playing in and something will rub off. No stretch, no improvement. If you hang around people who are consistently negative and only look at the downsides of life, chances are, you will too.

And now we're down to the best part. GIVE! Giving will change your state of mind in

ways you can only imagine. In fact, giving without expecting anything in return, and just try to be a blessing in the lives of everyone you meet, that will give you the energy to do even more. No matter how bad things may seem, find someone need it and try to help them. Try to do this at least once a month, whether it be; providing food, having conversation or a monetary donation. Whether it's large or small, offer something to others. Remember, the secret to living is giving. Remember the adage, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
