A fire has destroyed several business places and a house in Tableland and has left one man injured.

The fire began around five this morning at the home of Narine Rampersad and spread to adjoining businesses, that included a bar, a tyre shop and a car parts dealership.

Three of the business places have been identified as Tyre Jungle Limited, GMR Tyre Shop, Double-A Alignment and 3-A Best Parts.

Rampersad says that around 5 am he was alerted by his mother of smoke in the back of bedroom of the house.

He says he ran from the yard to the side of house and noticed it was already gutted by fire.

He attempted to enter the house with a water hose but on opening the door, a blast of fire exited, causing him first and second-degree burns across his face and head.

Rampersad says he lost all stock, machinery, jewellery and clothes in the fire.

Losses have been estimated at $12 million.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the blaze.
