15-year-old boy held with gun in Laventille

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested with a firearm in Laventille. Police say the boy ran off when he saw the police during an operation.

The police have issued the following statement:

"Around 9.20pm on Wednesday 3rd August 2016, Sgt Williams along with a party of officers attached to the Inter-Agency Task Force Operation H.O.P.E and Strike Team executed a search warrant at the residence of a man at William Street, Laventille. Nothing mentioned on the warrant was found however, the man was arrested relative to robberies and firearm related offences.

Whilst in the execution of their duties the officers observed a man who upon seeing the officers ran away. Several of the officers gave chase and the man was apprehended by PC Caruth who conducted a search.

During the search the officer found and seized 1 pistol with 16 rounds 9mm ammunition. The 15-year-old man of Beetham Gardens, Laventille was detained and conveyed to the Besson Street Police Station. PC Caruth is continuing investigations.

Eastern Division – anti-crime exercises

Between the hours of 8:15am and 11:00pm on Wednesday 3rd August 2016, Sgt Fuentes, PC Neaves, SRP Darbreau along with a party of officers attached to the Sangre Grande Criminal Investigations Department, Crime Suppression Unit and Task Force conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Matura, Sangre Grande and Rio Claro districts.

During the exercises 17 Field Interviews and 1 Field Sobriety Test were conducted and 7 persons were arrested for various offences which included larceny, driving under the influence and outstanding warrant.

Southern Division – anti-crime exercises

Between the hours of 11:00am and 11:00pm on Wednesday 3rd August 2016, Sgt Ragbir, Cpl Abbott along with a party of officers attached to the Southern Division conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Gasparillo, Marabella, Mon Repos, San Ferenando and Ste. Madeline’s districts.

During the exercises 21 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 73 Field Interviews were conducted and a 31-year-old labourer of Lucky Street, La Romaine was arrested and charged for robbery offences."
