$15.3 million cocaine bust in La Romaine

An anti-crime exercise in the Southern Division, has resulted in the seizure of $15.3 million worth in cocaine and the arrest of four men, including a Colombian national.

Officers of the San Fernando Task Force, CID and Transnational Organised Crime Unit, conducted the exercise, coordinated by Snr Supt (Ag.), Zamsheed Mohammed, between 12 noon and 10 pm, on Tuesday 11th April, 2017, in the La Romaine area.

Around 6:20 pm the officers, based on information received, stopped a silver Toyota Fielder Wagon, which was proceeding along Rahaman Drive, La Romaine, with two male occupants.

A search of the vehicle resulted in a rectangular packet being discovered, containing 1.3 kilogrammes of cocaine.

A 23-year-old Oropouche taxi driver and a 27-year-old labourer and Colombian national, who lives in Gasparillo, were held connection with the find.

Then around, 6:45 pm, the officers stopped and searched a silver Mitsubishi Wagon, which was proceeding along Bobb Street, La Romaine, with two male occupants.

The search resulted in nine rectangular packets, containing 9.7 kilogrammes of cocaine being found.

A 36-year-old La Romaine taxi driver and a 34-year-old pipefitter, also from La Romaine, were held in connection with the find.
