16 to spend long-weekend behind bars following police exercises in Central

Sixteen persons were arrested during anti-crime exercises in the Central Division, which also saw the seizure of firearms, ammunition and narcotics, a police statement said.

A total of eight exercises were conducted between 11:35 am and 8:00 pm on Wednesday 14th June, 2017, by officers of the Central Division Task Force, Chaguanas CID, Freeport CID and Canine Branch.

Officers, acting on information, first proceeded to Mulchan Seuchan Road, Chaguanas, where they arrested a 36-year-old tradesman, of Petit Valley.

The man was found seated in a vehicle along the roadway, with a Glock 19 pistol and two magazines in his possession.

The officers then executed a search warrant around 5:20 pm, at a house at Roystonia, Couva, where they discovered three kilogrammes of high-grade marijuana, one Taurus 9mm revolver and 45 rounds of assorted ammunition.

The drug has an estimated street value of $300,000.

A 33-year-old male technician who was found in the house at the time of the exercise, was arrested.

Thereafter, officers proceeded to Brickfield Village, Waterloo Road, Carapichaima, around 6:00 pm, where they executed a search warrant at the home of a 44-year-old maintenance worker.

A search of the house resulted in the discovery of 1.02 kilogrammes of marijuana, with a street value of $100,000.

The suspect was arrested in connection with the find.

Thirteen other persons were also arrested in the exercises in connection with varying offences.
