19 arrested for possession of arms, ammunition, drugs, shootings & other offences

A Sangre Grande man has been arrested for possession of a weapon, ammunition and illegal drugs.

Police say a roving road check duty was conducted in the Sangre Grande district between the hours of 12 pm and 5 pm, on Friday 31st March, 2017, under the supervision of Insp (Ag.) Lutchman and including Cpl Harper, PC Sankar and other personnel of the Eastern Division Task Force and CID.

At around 1:30pm, while at Five Acres, Sahadeen Trace, Vega De Oropouche, the party of officers observed Kurt Garcia, 22, acting suspiciously as he walked along the said roadway.

Officers proceeded to search Garcia and allegedly discovered one homemade shotgun and two rounds of 16-gauge cartridges, one round of 12-gauge cartridge and three grammes of marijuana.

Garcia was arrested and taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station.

A warrant was later executed at the home of Garcia for firearms and ammunition, however, nothing illegal was found.

Garcia was subsequently charged by PC Baptiste for possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Meanwhile, five persons were arrested in an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Maraval police station district.

Police say four persons were arrested in connection with shootings that occurred within the Maraval area, whilst the other was arrested on outstanding warrants.

The exercise was co-ordinated by W/Sgt Simmons and supervised by W/Cpl Campbell, Cpl (Ag.) Jupiter, Cpl (Ag.) Pennie, and PCs Joseph, Senoire and Cupidore and was also carried out on Friday.

In Maloney, an exercise carried out between the hours of 9pm on Saturday 1st April, 2017 and 6am on Sunday 2nd April, 2017 led to the arrest of 13 persons, five of whom are deemed priority offenders.

The suspects were held on charges related to narcotics, robbery and shootings.

Darren Gumbs aka “Dawoo”, 26, and Richard Wilson aka “Bun”, 27, both priority offenders, were jointly charged for possession of 48.32 grammes of marijuana, while, David Phillip and Aaron Williams, were jointly charged for possession of 54.42 grammes marijuana.

The exercise was co-ordinated by ACP Hackshaw and spearheaded by Snr. Supt. Jacob and supervised by Sgt (Ag.) Dedier and Cpl (Ag.) Stevenson and included a party of officers from the Maloney Police Station, Northern Division Task Force Area Central and members of the Canine Unit.
