25-year-old Sangre Grande man charged with murder

A 25-year-old labourer appeared before the Sangre Grande 1st Magistrate’s Court today charged with the murder of a man, whose remains had to be exhumed from a gravel pit, at Pine Road, Vega de Oropouche, Sangre Grande, one year ago. 

Ricardo James, aka Doodie, appeared before Senior Magistrate Debra Quintyne, for the murder of Donald Javel Pierre, who had been reported missing on January 20th, 2016.

The victim’s body was subsequently found buried in a hole 20 feet deep, on February 29th, 2016.

The results of a post-mortem determined Pierre died from a gunshot wound. 

Pierre, 20, lived at Manzanilla Main Road, Manzanilla, while the accused resided at Rampersad Trace, Vega de Oropouche, Sangre Grande.

On Wednesday 1st March, 2017, instructions were received from the Director of Public Prosecution Roger Gaspard SC, to charge James with murder.

PC Travis Chatar of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region II, laid the charge.

The matter has been postponed to Wednesday 29th March, 2017.
