Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the robbery and chopping of Navin Bissoon and his family at their Suchit Trace, Penal home last Tuesday.
One of the suspects, aged 23 has already given a statement to police and a Samsung J-5 Prime phone belonging to Bissoon was recovered. The two other suspects all under the age of 25, were taken to separate locations where they were interrogated.
During an interview yesterday, Bissoon expressed gratitude to Police Commissioner Gary Griffith and Penal police for arresting the suspects.
"I feel very hopeful and I now have greater confidence in the police," Bissoon said. He added that the two other phones stolen from the house have not yet been recovered.
The thieves stole $2,000 from the family which was supposed to be used to pay bills.
Bissoon said the thieves have been unleashing terror on families in Penal.
Since the robbery, Bissoon said his family has been traumatized.
His wife Annisa Ramnarine, 28, suffered a chop to the face during the melee.
She received 22 stitches to her right eye at the San Fernando General Hospital while her brother-in-law Nishan Bissoon, 30, was chopped on one foot.
Bissoon's stepfather, pensioner Jairam Bedasie, 74, was bitten on the right hand.
Police said the suspects are expected to be charged following which they will appear before a Siparia Magistrate to answer the charges.
