492 positions available in UNC constituency polls

A total of 492 positions will be up for grabs in the United National Congress’ (UNC) constituency executive elections due this month.

Confirmation came from the party’s deputy political leader David Lee, two days after the UNC announced on its website that the party will hold its constituency executive elections, as well as its woman’s arm and youth arm elections, as it prepares for the upcoming local government and general elections.

The constituency executive elections will be held on two days — June 23 and 30.

Elections for the woman’s arm and youth arm will take place on July 7.

Nomination forms for the three elections will be available at the UNC’s headquarters from today.

Lee said the constituency executive election which is held every two years was overdue by four months.

“Its deadline expired in February,” Lee said.

“So this election it far overdue.”

Lee made it abundantly clear that the constituency election is to fill 12 positions for “each of the 41 constituencies.”

The positions range from chairman to secretary.

That means that 492 positions will be up for grabs, Lee said.

“It mirrors the UNC’s national executive elections.

It’s really positions that will be available. If more than one person files for a particular position there would be a contest.”

Each constituency executive selected, Lee said will help the UNC internally for the upcoming local government and general elections.

“They will give us good footing.”

Lee said screening of its local government elections candidates will take place soon.
