Police locked down the infamous Copacabana hotel in Port-of-Spain overnight Thursday and arrested 35 Dominican Republic and Venezuelan women and 16 male patrons.
The raid on the Dundonald Street establishment was conducted by officers of the Port of Spain Division from 11 pm Thursday into 3 am Friday.
Police said acting on intelligence, they raided Copacabana around 11 am where they arrested the women, some of whom were engaged in lewd dancing at the time and men.
The women are believed to be in the country illegally and are being investigated for possible soliciting, prostitution and operating a brothel. One of the men was charged with marijuana possession.
The raid was spearheaded by ACP Williams, Supt Ramnath and included ASP Sooker, Insp Deonarine and Sgt Bharath.
