51 arrested during Copacabana raid

Po­lice locked down the in­fa­mous Co­paca­bana ho­tel in Port-of-Spain overnight Thurs­day and ar­rest­ed 35 Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic and Venezue­lan women and 16 male pa­trons.

The raid on the Dun­don­ald Street es­tab­lish­ment was con­duct­ed by of­fi­cers of the Port of Spain Di­vi­sion from 11 pm Thurs­day in­to 3 am Fri­day.


Po­lice said act­ing on in­tel­li­gence, they raid­ed Co­paca­bana around 11 am where they ar­rest­ed the women, some of whom were en­gaged in lewd danc­ing at the time and men.

The women are be­lieved to be in the coun­try il­le­gal­ly and are be­ing in­ves­ti­gat­ed for pos­si­ble so­lic­it­ing, pros­ti­tu­tion and op­er­at­ing a broth­el. One of the men was charged with mar­i­jua­na pos­ses­sion.

The raid was spear­head­ed by ACP Williams, Supt Ram­nath and in­clud­ed ASP Sook­er, In­sp De­onar­ine and Sgt Bharath.
