Fifty-one (51) motorists were ticketed over the weekend for driving over the speed limit.

A female motorist was caught in a speed trap established between the Maloney and Piarco Intersections along the westbound lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, driving at a speed of 130mph, police say in a statement.

The statement says the motorist, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz vehicle,  was ticketed and warned about the dangers of speeding and the need for responsible road use.

The exercise was undertaken by the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, under ASP (Ag.) Harnarine Rampath, Inspector (Ag.) Sampooran Kissoonlal and including Sgt (Ag.) Rudranath Ramphal and Cpls Phillip and Lullkool.

Police say the overlapping night exercises took place along the Churchill Roosevelt and Uriah Butler Highways.

The statement says the speed enforcement exercises are intended to reduce the number of deaths on the nation’s roadways.
