The THA has approved a budget of $7.2 million for Carnival 2018 celebrations in Tobago.

The theme for next years' carnival celebration is to “reignite a passion for culture and the arts on the island while rebuilding the creative elements of the festival.”

The following is a press release from the THA:

SCARBOROUGH Tobago, Friday 15 December, 2017: The Executive Council of the Tobago House of Assembly has approved a budget of $7.2 million for Tobago Carnival 2018.

The season will launch with the annual THA Inter Department Calypso and Personality Competition, and events will include signature elements such as Monday Night Mas.

According to Chairman of the Tobago Carnival Committee, Mr. George Leacock, the primary focus of next year’s Carnival season is to, “reignite a passion for culture and the arts on the island while rebuilding the creative elements of the festival.”

This goal will be achieved, he said, through significant engagement of both cultural and corporate stakeholders.

Mr. Leacock also emphasized the Committee’s goal to create a greater understanding amongst Tobagonians about the importance of Carnival to our social identity and he expressed the team’s collective enthusiasm to build on the successes of 2017.

Tobago Carnival will take place on February 12 and 13, 2018 alongside Trinidad Carnival. From ‘mud mas’ to ‘pan round the neck’, residents and visitors alike will be treated to an authentic, culturally rich Carnival experience. The festival remains a signature item on the destination’s event calendar and it serves as one of the vehicles through which the island’s rich culture is preserved and showcased.

The Division of Tourism, Culture and Transportation remains committed to promoting Destination Tobago through the island’s many rich cultural offerings, including Tobago Carnival, and we look forward to working alongside the Tobago Carnival Committee to ensure the successful execution of the festival in 2018.
