Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi has said that details of the government’s anti-crime plan will be made public soon.

The AG was speaking yesterday at a Sensitisation and Safeguarding Non-Profit Organisations Workshop to discuss recently passed legislation under which non-profit organisations will now have to operate.

He said the law was meant to protect the citizens of this country from falling victim to terrorist financing and other related crimes.

With the new law, all non-profit or non-governmental organisations must properly register and be subjected to audits.

Al-Rawi said this is all forms part of the government’s anti-crime plan.

“If you can’t catch somebody for a crime it’s because your court not working. If your court is not working, why is it not working? Manpower, plant and machinery, processes; let’s fix that.

“What comes next are structures around it. What are the structures? The laws that feed against hard crimes, firearms, bail, all of those things, protection for children, anti-gang. If you can’t catch them in that circle why not catch them on their money? This is where this comes in. These are all layers of protection that have been built around the people of Trinidad and Tobago that will be unveiled in detailed fashion in a couple of days, if not a couple of weeks ahead of us.”

He described the anti-crime plan as one of the most comprehensive that this country has ever witnessed.
