Al-Rawi finds a home for Stacy

In four months single mother Stacy Valasquez and her son should be moving into their new home in Marabella.

The assurance came from San Fernando West MP and Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi in a letter to Concerns Muslims of T&T, the group which has been assisting the mother and son for the past six months.

Immediately after Valasquez predicament that she and her son were living in the pavilion of the Marabella Basketball Court was highlighted in this newspaper, the group came to their assistance.

The group rented an apartment in Kelly Village, Caroni, for them for six months.

About a week ago the group’s PRO Imtiaz Mohammed expressed frustration and concern that the rental arrangement would be expiring this month and each attempt at speaking or meeting with Al-Rawi has been unsuccessful.

However, Mohammed said on Tuesday Al- Rawi contacted him via phone and on Wednesday sent him a letter committing to assisting Valasquez and her son, but requested more time.

As a result, Mohammed said his group will continue paying rent for Valasquez until September.

In the letter, Al-Rawi commended the group’s continued endeavours in charitable and philanthropic enterprise and their decision to help Valasquez and her son.

Al-Rawi said they were hoping that Valasquez can benefit from their Housing Village Improvement Program (HVIP) under the Land Settlement Agency, provided that all the criteria are met.

He explained that HVIP is a novel project to improve the living conditions for the most vulnerable and impoverished persons in the Marabella Train Line/Bayshore/Pakistan community.

He said they have commenced works for 30 families in that community and the project is on the second stage for identification. He said more units are to be built.

“We are making every endeavour to assist her in this regard but do believe that it will be at least another three months before we can advance concrete solutions. In the circumstances and as persons/entities both involved in charitable and philanthropic enterprise I humbly grave your organisation’s continued assistance for Ms Valasquez until September 2019.”

Attempts to reach Valasquez on her cellphone were unsuccessful.
