Amputee charged with murder

Less than a week after the murder of Richard Phillip on Friday 24th August, 2018, a Sangre Grande man is charged with his murder and has appeared before a Sangre Grande Magistrate.

Kevin Civilien aka ‘Guts’, 37, an amputee of Ramdass Street, Sangre Grande, who was also charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition, appeared before Magistrate Cheron Raphael in the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 29th August, 2018.

The matter has been postponed to Wednesday 26th September, 2018. Mr. Phillip, 36, a mechanic of Vega de Oropouche, Sangre Grande, was at his workplace along Ramdass Street, around 10:30pm, last Friday when a man known to him, approached the victim and shot him once in the chest.

The victim died at the scene.

Civilien was arrested on the same date of the incident at his home by officers attached to the Sangre Grande Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Garth Nelson, of the Eastern Division, supervised investigations while charges were laid by WPC Ria Timothy, of the Sangre Grande CID, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard, SC, on Wednesday 29th August, 2018.
