A Malabar man is expected to appear before an Arima Magistrate tomorrow, charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition, after being arrested during an anti-crime exercise in the Arima district, yesterday.
Maurice Koon Koon, 47, of Koon Koon Trace, Malabar, was arrested around 9:30 am on Tuesday 15th May, 2018, by officers of the Arima Crime Patrol, while driving along the Eastern Main Road, Arima.
The exercise was coordinated by Cpl Paul Ramdhanie, of the Arima Criminal Investigations Department (CID), and included a party of officers from the Arima CID, Arima Crime Patrol and the Northern Division Rapid Response Unit.
Acting on information, officers had cause to stop and search a red Nissan Tiida motor vehicle being driven by Koon Koon.
The search resulted in officers discovering one Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with five rounds of .38mm ammunition.
He was subsequently arrested and conveyed to the Arima Police Station, where PC Kyron Simon laid the charges.
