Arouca man held with gun, ammunition in police exercise

An Arouca man has been held with a gun and ammunition during a police exercise that nabbed six people.

The exercise began at 10 am Wednesday and ended at midnight.

The following is a police statement on the arrests. 

"Between the hours of 10:00am on Wednesday 27th July 2016 and 12midnight on Thursday 28th July 2016, Sgt Joseph, Sgt Dedier along with a party of officers attached to the Nothern Division Task Force Area Central, Arouca Criminal Investigations Department, Cumuto and Maloney Police Stations conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Arouca, Cumuto and Maloney districts.

During the exercises 80 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 128 Field Interviews and 12 Field Sobriety Tests were conducted and 6 persons were arrested for various offences. Of the persons arrested a 27-year-old man of Oropune Gardens, Arouca was charged for possession of one 9mm pistol and 3 rounds 9mm ammunition.

The officers also found and seized 1 Smith and Wesson .40 calibre pistol with 1 magazine and 8 rounds ammunition in a bushy area in Maloney Gardens and 1 black Mazda BT 50 which was stolen at gun point in Dinsley, Tacarigua on Wednesday 27th July 2016.

No one was arrested in connection with the found firearm, ammunition and vehicle. Investigations are continuing.

The exercises were spearheaded by Ag. Snr Supt Rajkumar."
