Bail for two officers on gang-related charges

Two police officers charged under the Anti-Gang Act were granted bail of close to $300,000 in total to cover all offences when they appeared before Magistrate Joanne Connor at the Arima Magistrate's Court shortly before three o'clock this afternoon.

Police-constable Angelo Cedeno, 40, of Jitman Drive, Arouca was charged with misbehaviour in public office which allegedly occurred something between December 31, 2017, and July 1, 2018, for trafficking cocaine and ammunition.

He was also charged with counselling a gang in gang-related activities between May 31, 2018, and July 1, 2018. He was granted $200,000 bail to cover both charges.

The other police constable  Don Balgobin also from Valencia was charged for allegedly corruptly receiving a sum of money to forego prosecution in a marijuana trafficking cases against individuals. He was granted $88,000 bail.

Both their matters were adjourned to April 2nd.

The civilian Jean Michel Alonzo Staple also of Jitman Drive was charged with being a gang member and counselling a gang in gang-related activities between May 27, 2017, and May 24, 2019, was remanded in custody for tracing until tomorrow.

All of the accused cases were connected to Ken Renaldo Gomez who was charged with being a leader of the gang in Jitman Drive and had previously appeared in court.
