Balandra man charged with several violent offences

Yuri Mckenzie, 28, of Balandra is expected to appear before a Sangre Grande Magistrate today charged with several violent offences including  eight counts of shooting with intent 

Mr Mckenzie, a fisherman, of Rampanalgas Village, Balandra, also faces charges of malicious damage, possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of firearm and ammunition to endanger life, as well as three counts of wounding with intent.

He was arrested during a joint exercise between officers of the Toco and Sangre Grande Police Stations, on Wednesday 30th May 2018.

The charges were laid in connection with an incident which allegedly occurred on Saturday 26th May 2018. 

According to police reports the victims, a family of Balandra, were at their home around 12:20 am, on the said date, when they heard a loud noise on their roof.

 Two family members exited the home, to investigate the noise and were greeted by gunfire from multiple assailants. 

They were able to identify a few of the gunmen, leading to the arrest of McKenzie. 

Three persons were injured, including a 12-year-old boy, who remains hospitalized. 

McKenzie was subsequently charged by W/Cpl. (Ag.) Natasha Lezama, of the Toco Police Station, on Sunday 3rd June 2018.
