Barrackpore man held with gun and ammunition

One man was arrested and a firearm and a quantity of ammunition seized by officers of the Southern Division, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Barrackpore district last night.

Officers were on mobile patrol in the district around 10:00 pm, on December 12th, when, based on information received, they had cause to proceed to New Colonial Road.

According to police reports, there, they observed a man standing at the side of the road, acting suspiciously.

Upon seeing the officers, the man ran off.

The officers gave chase and apprehended him a short distance away.

A search of the suspect resulted in officers finding one Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition in his possession.

The man, a 23-year-old of Location Road, Barrackpore, was arrested in connection with the finds.
