Former T&T Footballer Brent Sancho says a new head coach for the national men’s football team could be named before the new year...
Speaking on The Morning Brew today, Brent Sancho told us Dennis Lawrence served his country well, both as a national player, as well as a coach, but the TTFA board felt it had no choice but to let him go.
The decision to fire Dennis Lawrence was taken at yesterday’s meeting of the TTFA board.
However, Brent Sancho did admit that his former team-mate did not have all the ideal conditions to work under, as head coach.
“When you look at some of the scenarios as it relates to the matches with the travel and so on—18-hour trips to get to places to play games the day before a match,” Sancho says. “I just felt he was put in a very difficult situation. They played teams that were ranked very highly; and the player pool he had to select from as well. It was always going to be a very difficult task for him,” the former national football star notes.
He adds: “This is sport, and a huge factor in sport is that it is a results-based business.”
According to Brent Sancho, while things may have been rough, Dennis Lawrence simply wasn’t able to bring in the results the board was looking for.
