CAL flight makes emergency landing in St Lucia

A Caribbean Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at the Hewanorra International Airport in St Lucia on Sunday, the St Lucia media have reported.

According to a report carried by the St Lucia Times, the pilot informed airport officials of an engine fire around eight minutes away from Vieux Fort.

Emergency services in the area were placed on alert as the plane approached the airport.

The plane landed safely shortly after 3 pm.

It was met by emergency services, including fire trucks and ambulances.

St Jude Hospital confirmed it was notified of the emergency and immediately activated the necessary protocols to deal with a mass casualty situation.

None of the 68 passengers on board were reportedly injured.

The plane’s intended destination and point of origin were not clear.

Caribbean Airlines has not yet released details of the incident.
