Coast Guard bust yields marijuana, ammunition

A Coast Guard bust has resulted in the seizure of marijuana and ammunition.

The following is a statement from the Coast Guard:

"Whilst on routine patrol on Monday 4th April 2016, the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard intercepted a white pirogue registered as TFS 2920 with three (3) persons onboard. The vessel and it occupants were escorted to Staubles Bay.

Searches were conducted on the vessel and two (2) bags were recovered, one bag contained ten (10) parcels of marijuana, weighting approximately 5.4 kg, with an estimated street value of Seventy-two Thousand, Nine Hundred Dollars (TT $72,900.00). The second bag contained Ninety-four (94) rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The men, illegal narcotics and ammunition were handed over to the Organised Crime Narcotics Firearm Bureau of the Police Service for further processing. Both the Customs and Excise and the Immigration Division are assisting with the investigation."
