Coast Guard nets $1.1 million in marijuana

The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard has made a major drug bust on the high seas with a seizure of marijuana valued at approximately $1.1 million.

In a statement, the Coast Guard says around 2.30 Thursday morning, a vessel carrying two men attempted to evade Coast Guard personnel.

However the Coast Guard gave chase and the boat was intercepted.

The vessel and men were escorted to the Coast Guard headquarters at Staubles Bay.

Detailed searches were conducted and two crocus bags containing 74 packets of marijuana valued at $1.1 million were found on board the vessel.

The men and illegal narcotics were handed over to the Organised Crime Narcotics & Firearms Bureau for further processing.
