Coast Guard nets $1.5 million in marijuana

The Coast Guard has netted $1.5 million in drugs, in a bust that took place on Sunday.

The following is a statement from the Coast Guard.

"On Sunday 10th April 2016 whilst on routine patrol along the south coast TTS Speyside – CG 25 intercepted a pirogue with crocus bags and five (5) men onboard.

The vessel and its occupants were escorted to the Coast Guard’s Cedros Base where seven (7) crocus bags containing Two Hundred and Twenty-eight packets of marijuana, weighing a total of One Hundred and Forty-eight point Seventy-five (148.75 kg) kilograms, with an estimated street value of One Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars (TT $ 1.5 million) were recovered from the pirogue.

The men and narcotics were handed over to the Organised Crime Narcotics and Firearms Bureau (OCNFB) for further processing."
