Chaguanas resident Allan Mohammed was killed in a police-involved shooting in his community early Friday.
Reports are sketchy but Guardian Media understands Mohammed, 28, was shot by officers while he was in his black SUV around 10.30 am, allegedly after he was involved in a confrontation with them as his vehicle approached theirs along Crown Trace, Enterprise. Mohammed allegedly drew a Mac11 firearm during the incident and officers opened fire on him.
Residents said they saw Mohammed’s SUV slowing down as the police patrol car approached on the street then heard six gunshots. However, they said before they could go outside to properly investigate, the officers had already put Mohammed into their vehicle and taken him to the health centre for treatment.
Police and residents at the scene said Mohammed, who ran a roti shop in the community with his mother, was a senior member of the Unruly Isis gang in the community.
However, his close friends and family denied this.
Guardian Media will bring you more on this as the story unfolds.
