Chaguanas mayor Gopaul Boodhan has said that councillors and the Chaguanas Borough Corporation (CBC) are being unfairly blamed for a lack of services.

He was responding yesterday to a report which criticised the corporation and councillors for not being able to access services.

Boodhan said many of the corporation’s equipment are down and the Government was not making any releases to the CBC to undertake repairs or purchase supplies.

He said also that relevant State agencies such as the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) was not undertaking timely road repairs whenever they do underground work.

Boodhan said the relevant Sate agencies responsible for road paving and drainage were not functioning the borough. He said councillors have had to beg for assistance from the private sector to get some level of assistance.

The mayor said the CBC is still awaiting an additional $42 million from the Government. He said the funds are important for development. “The financial year closes soon and only the minister knows why the funds are not being released,” he added.
