Cunupia man held for 2017 murder

A 21-year-old man has been charged with the 2017 murder of Stephen Smith.

Isaac Williams of Cunupia was charged following advice received from Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Joan Honore-Paul.

On Sunday 19th November, 2017, Smith got into an altercation with Williams at a house along Upper St. Barb’s Road, Laventille.

Smith, then left the house and upon his return was shot multiple times about the body.

Officers on mobile patrol in the area responded to the sound of gunshots and found Smith lying in the street.

He was rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital by the officers, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Williams was arrested on Wednesday 15th May, 2019 by officers of the Central Division in connection with robbery inquiries.

Investigations were supervised by ASP Suzette Martin, while PC Shermon Martin laid the charge, both officers are attached to Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region 1.

The matter has been adjourned to Monday 17th June, 2019.
