Disturbance at Besson Street as prisoners threaten police officer with faeces

Inmates at the Besson Street Police Station today threatened to throw faeces at an officer who they say is treating them unfairly.

Initial reports suggested that an officer was being held hostage at the station.

However, CNC3 News was told that around midday an officer was attempting to check on an inmate in one of three holding cells when inmates in another holding cell hurled insults at him.

The inmates accused the officer of unfair treatment while threatening to hurl faeces at him if he passed in front of their cell.

The guard and emergency branch was called in and the situation was quelled.
