Dutch beauty cops Divali Queen title

Dutch beau­ty Pree­tan­ji Rai is Miss Di­vali Na­gar 2018.

She took home brag­ging rights and a $20,000 first prize on Sun­day.

Rai, of Rot­ter­dam, in the King­dom of the Nether­lands, beat a field of sev­en con­tes­tants, — in­clud­ing five for­eign­ers and three lo­cal con­tes­tants.

Rai said she has fall­en in love with dou­bles, the tasty street food, dur­ing her vis­it to T&T.

“I tast­ed it this morn­ing and this is the best thing ever,” she said.

Rai, who works with mo­bile phone gi­ant Sam­sung, is al­so a dance teacher and is al­so in­volved in act­ing and danc­ing in Rot­ter­dam, where she was born to Suri­namese par­ents.

She wants to be a role mod­el for young women and girls who will grow up the be the next gen­er­a­tion of women. Rai al­so won the tal­ent com­pe­ti­tion with an en­er­getic dance.

Lo­cal beau­ty Ma­ri­na Mo­han, of Gas­par­il­lo, took home the sec­ond place prize of $10,000. Mo­han al­so won the award of Miss Pho­to­genic.Iri­an­na Levia, a na­tive of Be­lize, won the third prize of $7,500, she al­so won the award for Best Hair.

Plac­ing fourth and fifth re­spec­tive­ly were Robin Nand­lal, of Suri­name, who al­so won the award for Best Make­up, and Marisa Beekhoo, of Suri­name, who al­so got the award for Best Sari. The con­test com­menced short­ly af­ter 7 pm.

The del­e­gates per­formed an open­ing dance and gave the au­di­ence a short in­tro­duc­tion of them­selves.Af­ter a pe­ri­od of en­ter­tain­ment and speech­es from var­i­ous guests and artists, the show con­tin­ued with the sari mod­el­ling seg­ment.

Fi­nal­ists took the stage dressed in a sari of their choice be­fore the dread­ed ques­tion and an­swer seg­ment. The win­ners were lat­er an­nounced clos­er to 11 pm.The show end­ed on a high note with all par­tic­i­pants leav­ing the com­pe­ti­tion with to­kens that her­ald­ed their per­for­mance dur­ing the pageant.
