Several national security units are searching for eight fishermen who went missing at sea last night after four vessels were stolen in the Gulf of Paria near Carli Bay and Orange Valley. The missing were among several who were thrown overboard. One made it ashore alive and is being questioned by the police.
According to a release from Fisherman and Friends of the Sea, T&T Coast Guard (TTCG) responded and deployed a single vessel to search for the missing men. After making a long journey to Carli Bay, the TTCG vessel returned to the Chaguaramas Base.
Citizens are asked to be on the lookout for suspicious activity on the coastlines and the beaches and seafarers are asked to be on the lookout for the missing seamen and any suspicious activity.
The stolen vessels are:
° TFCA 1099 ‘Bula’- White with blue bottom
° TFCA 1238 ‘Sunshine’- White with blue bottom
° TFCA 2784 ‘Aaron’ – White with black bottom
TFCA 1343 was retrieved, but the engine was stolen.
TTCG, TTPS Air Support, CD, PoSD, CID, IATF and other units have responded. So far, five engines have been recovered and a suspect is in custody.
