Eight fishermen missing at sea

Sev­er­al na­tion­al se­cu­ri­ty units are search­ing for eight fish­er­men who went miss­ing at sea last night af­ter four ves­sels were stolen in the Gulf of Paria near Car­li Bay and Or­ange Val­ley. The miss­ing were among sev­er­al who were thrown over­board. One made it ashore alive and is be­ing ques­tioned by the po­lice.

Ac­cord­ing to a re­lease from Fish­er­man and Friends of the Sea, T&T Coast Guard (TTCG) re­spond­ed and de­ployed a sin­gle ves­sel to search for the miss­ing men. Af­ter mak­ing a long jour­ney to Car­li Bay, the TTCG ves­sel re­turned to the Ch­aguara­mas Base.


Cit­i­zens are asked to be on the look­out for sus­pi­cious ac­tiv­i­ty on the coast­lines and the beach­es and sea­far­ers are asked to be on the look­out for the miss­ing sea­men and any sus­pi­cious ac­tiv­i­ty.

The stolen ves­sels are:

° TF­CA 1099 ‘Bu­la’- White with blue bot­tom

° TF­CA 1238 ‘Sun­shine’- White with blue bot­tom

° TF­CA 2784 ‘Aaron’ – White with black bot­tom

TF­CA 1343 was re­trieved, but the en­gine was stolen.

TTCG, TTPS Air Sup­port, CD, PoSD, CID, IATF and oth­er units have re­spond­ed. So far, five en­gines have been re­cov­ered and a sus­pect is in cus­tody.
