Adriel Hackett, the ex-boyfriend of security guard Chris Rivers, yesterday appeared in court charged with her murder.
Dressed in all white, Hackett, 26, also a security guard was taken before Senior Magistrate Brian Debideen in the Mayaro Magistrates Court.
Rivers, 24, who broke off a four-year relationship with him last year, went missing on July 8. She was last seen leaving her workplace, at WASA substation, New Grant. However, she never made it back to her El Guanapo Estate, Rio Claro home where she lived with her mother.
After the mother, Roslyn made a public appeal for help to find her, a woman-led police to a forested area at Mafeking Village, Mayaro where Rivers’ body as found.
It was in an advanced stage of decomposition.
Hackett, of Union-Village, Mayaro, was arrested and later charged by PC Gillead.
The investigation was supervised by ASP Shaun Dhilpaul of Homicide Bureau Region 2 and included Sgt Toussiant and Cpl Bennet.
Hundreds of mourners attended Rivers’ funeral service last Friday at the house of mourning, following which she was buried at the Lapeyrouse Public Cemetery in Rio Claro.
Hackett is scheduled to next appear in court on August 19.
