Ex-lover appears in court for woman’s murder

Adriel Hack­ett, the ex-boyfriend of se­cu­ri­ty guard Chris Rivers, yes­ter­day ap­peared in court charged with her mur­der.

Dressed in all white, Hack­ett, 26, al­so a se­cu­ri­ty guard was tak­en be­fore Se­nior Mag­is­trate Bri­an De­bideen in the Ma­yaro Mag­is­trates Court.


Rivers, 24, who broke off a four-year re­la­tion­ship with him last year, went miss­ing on Ju­ly 8. She was last seen leav­ing her work­place, at WASA sub­sta­tion, New Grant. How­ev­er, she nev­er made it back to her El Gua­napo Es­tate, Rio Claro home where she lived with her moth­er.

Af­ter the moth­er, Roslyn made a pub­lic ap­peal for help to find her, a woman-led po­lice to a forest­ed area at Mafek­ing Vil­lage, Ma­yaro where Rivers’ body as found.

It was in an ad­vanced stage of de­com­po­si­tion.

Hack­ett, of Union-Vil­lage, Ma­yaro, was ar­rest­ed and lat­er charged by PC Gil­lead.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion was su­per­vised by ASP Shaun Dhilpaul of Homi­cide Bu­reau Re­gion 2 and in­clud­ed Sgt Tou­s­siant and Cpl Ben­net.

Hun­dreds of mourn­ers at­tend­ed Rivers’ fu­ner­al ser­vice last Fri­day at the house of mourn­ing, fol­low­ing which she was buried at the Lapey­rouse Pub­lic Ceme­tery in Rio Claro.

Hack­ett is sched­uled to next ap­pear in court on Au­gust 19.
