A 32-year-old Laventille man appeared before Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers Caesar today charged with the murder of his 17-month-old daughter last week.
Brandon Job of John John, Laventille was represented by Legal Aid attorney Randall Raphael as he stood accused of killing Nyla Sanchez at the child’s Plaisance Terrace, Laventille home.
Police say officers were called to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital on April 20th after relatives of Sanchez brought her lifeless body to the hospital.
Sanchez’s mother told police that an hour earlier she had left Nyla and her four-year-old brother unattended at their home.
She said when she returned she found her daughter unconscious and frothing at the mouth.
A post-mortem performed by pathologist Dr Eastlyn McDonald Burris at the Forensic Science Centre in St James revealed that the baby died from blunt force trauma to her head.
Job will re-appear in court on May 24th.
