Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of alcohol went up in flames this morning as an early morning fire gutted a supermarket and liquor store in San Juan.
The fire broke out around 1.30 Monday morning.
Neighbours say they heard a loud explosion before they noticed the establishment on Pritzgar Road was on fire.
They attempted a bucket brigade to out the flames but their attempts to save the building proved futile.
The fire services later arrived and contained the fire and senior officers say investigations are still underway to determine the cause of the blaze.
Firefighters from the Port-of-Spain, San Juan and Tunapuna fire stations fought the blaze and were able to ensure that it did not spread to nearby houses.
