Firearm and ammunition seized in anti-crime exercise

Police have seized a firearm and several rounds of ammunition in an anti-crime exercise.

The Police Service issued the following statement today:

"Port of Spain Division – firearm, ammunition seized

Between the hours of 5:00am to 11:00am on Friday 12th August 2016, CplMarajh along with a party of officers attached to the Inter-Agency Task Force Strike Team and Duncan Street Police Post acted upon information received and proceeded to a bushy area in Commonwealth Drive, Nelson Street, Freeport where they conducted a search.

During the search the officers found and seized 1 Ruger Pistol, 1 magazine, 10 rounds 9mm ammunition, 1 air rifle and 17.68 grammes marijuana with a street value of $262.50. No one was arrested. Investigations are continuing.

Eastern Division – ammunition seized
Between the hours of 3:30am and 12 midnight on Friday 12th August 2016, Inspector Doodhai, Sgt Ramkissoon along with a party of officers attached to the Biche, Matura, Mayaro, Sangre Grande and Valencia Police Stations, Eastern Division Task Force, Crime Patrol Unit, Traffic and Warrant Section conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Biche, Matura, Mayaro, Sangre Grande and Valencia districts.

During the exercises 16 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 43 Field Interviews and 89 Field Sobriety Tests were conducted, 5 warrants were executed and 4 persons were arrested for various offences.
Of the persons arrested a 15-year-old male was charged for possession of 5 rounds .38 ammunition.

Tobago Division – anti-crime exercise
Between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm on Friday 12th August 2016, Cpl Alleyne, PC Vincent along with a party of officers attached to the Tobago Traffic Department and Criminal Investigations Department conducted an anti-crime exercise in the Scarborough district.

During the exercise 41 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 8 Field Interviews and 10 Field Sobriety Tests were conducted and a 50-year-old labourer of Jaegers Hall, Plymouth was charged for driving under the influence.

Southern Division – anti-crime exercises

Between the hours of 8:00am on Thursday 11th August 2016 and 11:00pm on Friday 12th August 2016, Inspector Persad, Sgt Parasram along with a party of officers attached to the Southern Division Court and Process and Warrant Section conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Princes Town and Ste. Madeline districts.

During the anti-crime exercises 15 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 15 Field Interviews were conducted, 48 warrants were executed and 32 persons were arrested for various offences."
