Firearm, narcotics and ammunition seized during nationwide anti-crime exercise

The TTPS seized a firearm, ammunition and narcotics during an anti-crime exercise yesterday. The following is the full TTPS press release:

Southern Division – firearm, ammunition, narcotics seized 

Between the hours of 12:00 midnight on Tuesday 9th August 2016 and 11:00pm on Wednesday 10th August 2016, Inspector Yearwood, Sgt Bisnath along with a party of officers attached to the Southern Divsiion Task Force and Traffic Section, Police Canine Unit, Marabella and Ste. Madeline Police Stations conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Marabella, Gasparilo, La Romaine, Ste. Madeline and San Fernando districts. 

During the exercises 23 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 23 Field Interviews were conducted and 5 persons were arrested for various offences. 

Of the persons arrested a 31 year old man of Robertson Street, San Fernando was charged for possession of 2 rounds .9mm ammunition, 4 rounds .40 ammunition and 1.1kg marijuana with a street value of $16,500.00. 

In another incident around 12:15pm on Wednesday 10th August 2016, Sgt Parasram along with a party of officers attached to the Ste. Madeline Police Station were on mobile patrol along Peterloo Street, Friendship Village 2 
when PC Lall observed a man acting in a suspicious manner. 

The officers approached the man and conducted a search. 

During the search the officers found and seized 1 Ruger .38 revolver, 5 rounds .38 ammunition and 18 grammes marijuana with a street value of $270.00. The 45 year old man of Suchit Trace, Penal was arrested and charged for the offences. 

Central Division – ammunition seized Between the hours of 2:00pm and 10:20pm on Wednesday 10th August 2016, Inspector Bhagwandeen, Sgt Persad along with a party of officers attached to the Couva Police Station, Central Division Task Force and Operations Unit, Police Canine Branch and Criminal Gang and Investigations Unit conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Central Division. 

During the exercises 4 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 80 Field Interviews were conducted, 1 warrant was executed and 15 persons were arrested for various offences which included possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of marijuana, obscene language and resisting arrest. 

The officers also found and seized 12 rounds 7.62 ammunition in a bushy area along Cemetery Street, Claxton Bay. No one was arrested. Investigations are continuing. 

The exercises were coordinated by Ag. Snr Supt Hodge-Griffith, Supt Corbette and ASP Sooker. 3 

Port of Spain Division – ammunition, narcotics seized 

Between the hours of 10:05am and 8:10pm on Wednesday 10th August 2016, Sgt Ross, Cpl Archibald along with a party of officers attached to the Besson Street Criminal Investigations Department, Inter-Agency Task Force Strike Team, Charford Court Base and Operation H.O.P.E. conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Port of Spain and Laventille districts. 

During the anti-crime exercises 1 Fixed Penalty Notice was issued, 31 Field Interviews were conducted and a 24 year old man of George Street, Port of Spain was arrested relative to a report of robbery with violence. 

The officers also found and seized 12 rounds 9mm ammunition, 68 grammes of marijuana and .3grams of cocaine together with a street value of $1,030.50. No one was arrested. Investigations are continuing. 
Eastern Division – stolen vehicle recovered 

Around 4:25pm on Wednesday 10th August 2016, SRP Henry along with a party of officers attached to the Sangre Grande Crime Suppression Unit were on patrol in the Sangre Grande district when they observed a white Nissan AD Wagon which was reported stolen on Thursday 23rd June 2016 in the Sangre Grande district. 

The driver of the vehicle was caused to stop and the 3 male occupants ages 44, 37 and 32 of Point Fortin and Claxton Bay were arrested. PC Sankar is continuing investigations. 

Northern Division – anti-crime exercises 

Between the hours of 3:00pm on Wednesday 10th August 2016 and 5:00am on Thursday 11th August 2016, ASP mark, Sgt Singh, Cpl Cordner along 4 
with a party of officers attached to the Tunapuna, St. Joseph and Maloney Police Stations, Northern Division Task Force West, Tunapuna and St. Joseph Warrant Staff conducted several anti-crime exercises in the Tunapuna, St. Joseph and Maloney districts. 

During the anti-crime exercises 70 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 17 Field Interviews and 17 Field Sobriety Tests were conducted and 19 persons were arrested for various offences which included possession of marijuana, obscene language and outstanding warrant.
