Five bar owners appeared before a Siparia Magistrate today charged with breaching the Gambling and Betting Act Chapter 11:19

Five bars in the South Western Division are now closed after breaches in their licenses were discovered during an anti-crime operation, targeting bars in the Fyzabad and Oropouche districts last evening.
The bar owners appeared before a Siparia Magistrate today where they faced the charge of keeping a common gaming house contrary to Section 4 of the Gambling and Betting Act Chapter 11:19.
The exercise which took place from 12:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday 7th December, 2017, was coordinated by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Nevil Adams and included officers of the South Western Division Task Force and Criminal Investigations Department. VERNON MAHARAJ, 43, proprietor of Verns Bar, Guapo Road, Fyzabad; JULIET PATRICK, 47, proprietress of One Love Bar, Gowers Well Road, Fyzabad; SOHAN PERSAD, 33, proprietor of the Blue Marble Bar, Narinejit Trace, South Oropouche; REACHIE RICKY SINGH, 33, proprietor of the South Train Bar, Mon Desir Road, Dow Village, South Oropouche; and HANSRAJIE DEHUE, 51, proprietress of Mon Desir Bar, Mon Desir Road, South Oropouche, appeared before Magistrate Margaret Alert at the 1st Court to answer the charge.
PERSAD pled guilty and was discharged while the remaining four were remanded continuing bail in the amount of $1000. During the exercise one illegal immigrant from Dominican Republic was also arrested.
