Flash flooding in Diego Martin, Central Trinidad

Activity from the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone continues to affect Trinidad and Tobago, with heavy showers and thunderstorms triggering street and flash flooding across parts of Western Trinidad on Wednesday. 

The Diego Martin and Maraval Rivers have over-topped their banks in several areas The Diego Martin Highway and surrounding locations have been flooded.

The ODPM is advising against travel in the areas. Street and flash flooding are also being reported in Couva, Port of Spain, Claxton Bay and Point-a-Pierre.

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to continue, mainly across the northern half of Trinidad through the early afternoon, compounding that street/flash flood threat.

There is an elevated risk of landslides along the Northern Range. An Adverse Weather Alert, Yellow Level, remains in effect for Trinidad through 6:00 PM.
