Funeral set for Wednesday; body to lie in State & transported through UWI

The funeral of former President George M/axwell will take place on Wednesday of next week, a statement by the Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs said.

The body of the late president will lie in State for two days on Monday and Tuesday and will also be transported through the University of the West Indies where the former president served as principal.

The Ministry of Foreign and Caricom Affairs has issued the following statement;

"A State Funeral will be held in honour of the late Professor George Maxwell Richards TC, CMT, PhD, former President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. 

Professor Richards was the fourth President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and served in that capacity from 2003 to 2013.

The Funeral will take place on Wednesday 17th January, 2018 at the National Academy for the Performing Arts, North from 10:00 a.m.

The body of the late Professor George Maxwell Richards will lay in State at the Parliament, Tower D, International Waterfront Centre from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday 16th January, 2018.

On Tuesday 17th January, 2018, the body will be transported through the St. Augustine Campus of The University of the West Indies from 8:45 a.m. en route to the National Academy for the Performing
Arts, North, where it will lay in State from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Condolence Books will be available for signature by members of the public at both venues.

A subsequent public notice will confirm other locations where Condolence Books may be signed."
