Gang war breaks out inside POS prison

On the fourth an­niver­sary of the Port of Spain prison jail­break, a fra­cas has bro­ken out at the jail in­volv­ing the Ras­ta City and Mus­lim gangs ac­cord­ing to well-placed prison sources.

Sources say that the clash be­tween the ri­val gangs broke out some­time this morn­ing and sev­er­al in­mates were in­jured.


One of the in­mates who was slashed has been iden­ti­fied as Has­san Mo­hammed- they say he was at­tacked by a mem­ber of the Ras­ta City group who goes by the alias "Cash."

Mo­hammed pris­ons sources say is a high pro­file in­mate and was rushed to the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal for treat­ment. The ex­tent of the in­juries to oth­er in­mates is yet to be con­firmed.

Po­lice of­fi­cers of the Bel­mont Po­lice Sta­tion were al­so alert­ed and have since ar­rived at the prison.

Mo­hammed is un­der the guard of the High-Risk Man­age­ment Unit (HRMU).

On Ju­ly 24, 2015, Al­lan "Scan­ny" Mar­tin, Has­san Atwell and Christo­pher “Mon­ster” Sel­by shot their way out of the Port-of-Spain State Prison.

Dur­ing the in­ci­dent PC Sher­man May­nard was shot and killed dur­ing the es­cape, and prison of­fi­cer Leon Rouse was shot and wound­ed.

Mar­tin was shot dead in a guard booth at the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. Atwell was mur­dered af­ter hid­ing out in East Port-of-Spain a day lat­er. Sel­by sur­ren­dered at the Barataria Po­lice Sta­tion two days lat­er and was charged with ten of­fences, in­clud­ing May­nard’s mur­der.
