National Security Minister Stuart Young has announced a ban on glass bottles for Carnival 2020.
At a press conference at the Ministry of National Security a short while ago, Minister Young said he hopes this ban will become a standard feature of Carnival in years to come.
The ban will start at 4am on Carnival Monday and end at midnight on Carnival Tuesday.
Minister Young said those found breaking the law will have their beverages seized by police if they refuse to empty them into plastic or paper cups.
He said the ban is one for the safety of Carnival lovers, as glass bottles have been used as missiles and broken to create weapons for stabbing.
Police Commissioner Gary Griffith, who was also present at the press conference, said while police will be flexible in dealing with those who contravene the ban, he hopes citizens will not take their 'meekness' for weakness.
