Government distributes cards to help need with Christmas food bills

The Government has begun distributing prepaid food cards for needy families across the country.

The Ministry of Social Development says in a media statement, that the cards are being given to supplement food requirements for Christmas.

The following is the statement issued by the Ministry today.

"Several families across Trinidad and Tobago are set to receive food support from the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, just in time to bring them some Christmas cheer and joy.

The announcement was made by Honourable Cherrie Ann Crichlow-Cockburn, Minister of Social Development and Family Services, who also indicated that the support is intended to supplement the families' food requirements for the Christmas Season.

According to the Ministry, the support will be in the form of a Prepaid Card for the purchase of food up to the value of $400.00 and will offer families an easy, convenient and efficient way of helping to meet their nutrition requirements this holiday season.

Delivery of cards commenced on Tuesday 20, December, 2016 at locations identified by the 41 Members of Parliament.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services is pleased to provide this support to families in need at this time."
