Government and Sandals officials are soon to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on the construction of a Sandals resort in Tobago.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and a team of Government ministers met with a delegation from Sandals Resorts Inc. led by founder Butch Stewart on Wednesday.

The meeting was held to continue discussions on the establishment of a Sandals and Beaches resort in Tobago, the Sandals Golden Grove Tobago Project.

The talks involved the type of structure that the project would follow - similar to the model that exists for Hilton Trinidad and Hyatt Regency Trinidad, meaning that Government would build the resort and Sandals Resorts Inc. would manage it.

Discussions also focused on the timing of the project and the use of private equity investment.

Government has signaled its commitment to the successful pursuit of a Sandals Golden Grove Tobago resort as the positive effects would be tremendous.

A commitment was also given that citizens will be updated on the project as and when there is new information available.
