The father of a murder victim is appealing to the police to work harder from get illegal guns off the streets.
Anthony Rajkumar of Cornelius Street in Tunapuna, expressed despair at crime situation in the country after his son, Anton “Blocker” Slater, 31, was gunned down on Wednesday night.
“I watch shows and I see how many guns they finding and sometimes they holding people but it has too many guns on the streets in the hands of young people and that needs to be stopped,” he said.
“The police need to work harder.”
Shortly before 10 pm, Slater was shot while standing in the yard of his grandmother’s house.
Rajkumar said he was at his house a short distance away when he heard rapid gunfire.
“It was real shots ring out and after it stopped I went outside and saw his mother bawling. When I do look is my son dead. I lost an innocent son and not I saying that—is the entire village can vouch for my son and his brother...good boys,” Rajkumar said.
Investigations are continuing.
