Five people appeared before a Tunapuna magistrate Thursday morning charged with taking part in the illegal adoption of a Venezuelan infant.
Pilot Patrick Borel, his wife of 15 years Daniella Parinello, Spanish teacher and translator Adrianna Ragbir and attorneys Annabelle Sooklal-Boynes and Kijana De Silva were each charged separately for breaching Section 9:2 of the Adoption Act 2000 by taking part in the arrangement of the adoption of the baby sometime between July 31 and September 30, 2018, although they were not members of the Children Authority, which exists wholly or in part for the purpose for making arrangements for the adoption of children.
Each accused was remanded on continuing bail by Magistrate Adrian Darmanie, who sat in the Third Court.
Attorneys Pamela Elder SC, Keith Scotland, Subhas Panday and Sean Cazabon represented the five accused.
The matter was adjourned to January 16, 2019.
