Fire officials in Tobago are urging home and business owners to be vigilant and ensure that they are prepared in the event there is a fire on their properties.
The call comes after officers have been busy battling several fires over the last month, and more recently two fires over the weekend.
Speaking with Guardian Media, Divisional Fire Officer David Joseph-Thomas said the increased number of incidences within the last month is unusual.
He referred to the recent fires at the Scarborough Secondary School and several other incidents.
Yesterday, there was a fire at the Scarborough branch of KFC.
On Sunday, there were two fires; one left three persons homeless after it destroyed the two-bedroom Mt Grace home of Steven Bernard.
According to Officer Thomas, at about 7:45 pm, a call was received and when fire tenders arrived at the location, the building was well alight.
Thomas urged persons to be extra vigilant as traditionally, when incidences occur, there is usually a “proliferation”.
