Indarsingh wants PM to clarify status of EU money for Caroni workers

Couva South MP and former Sugar Workers Union head, Rudranath Indarsingh is calling on the prime minister to clarify his statement in Parliament where he said no money would be paid to the former Caroni sugar workers from the European Union grant.

The EU grant was given to this country following the closure of Caroni 1975 Limited, to fund a diversification process.

Sugar workers maintained that they were entitled to some of that money and despite delays and some controversy over the fund, one tranche of the payment was made to the workers.

Now Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says no further monies will be paid from the fund.

Indarsingh now wants the prime minister to explain where Dr Rowley plans to get the money to pay these workers considering it was one of his election promises.
