Judge back in court on charge of driving under influence

The drunk driving case against recently appointed High Court judge Kevin Ramcharan continues and State prosecutors have been given the all clear to correct a clerical error in the matter.

The case came up again at the Port-of-Spain Magistrate's Court today before magistrate Duane Murray who granted the DPP's application to amend the charge.

At the first hearing, officers admitted having mistakenly written the charge under the wrong section of the motor vehicle and Road Traffic Act.

The charge stems from an accident in Maraval on the night of May 26th involving Ramcharan who was at the time driving his Land Rover Discovery.

When police arrived on the scene, Ramcharan was administered a breathalyser test which was found to be 20 microgrammes above the legal limit.
